The Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (Bureau) exists to promote and protect the interests of students and consumers. The Bureau's Office of Student Assistance and Relief (OSAR) helps prospective, current, and past students of private postsecondary educational institutions understand their options for choosing a college, navigating a closure, and obtaining financial relief where available.

to operate by the
Bureau
You can search the Bureau's approved school database by name, location, or program type. You can also see any discipline the school has faced by visiting Disciplinary Actions. - File a
complaint
Students and other stakeholders can file a complaint against a private college operating in California online, by phone, or by mail by downloading the Complaint Form. - Apply for the Student Tuition
Recovery Fund
(STRF)
STRF exists to help students harmed by the closure of private colleges and may be able to provide refunds if students experience economic loss. - Request a
transcript
The Bureau may be able to help former private college students locate transcripts documenting the education they obtained. You may submit your request electronically or download the Transcript Request Form. - View an
