What the School Status Terms Mean
- Approved – This means the Bureau has reviewed the school and confirmed it meets minimum standards for integrity, financial stability, and educational quality. Approved schools must have qualified teachers and assess student progress throughout their programs.
- Registered – These are out-of-state private postsecondary schools that don’t have a physical location in California but offer online programs to California students for a fee.
- State Authorization Contract – These schools don’t need Bureau approval but have an agreement with the Bureau to handle student complaints. They are nonprofit postsecondary schools based in California that offer undergraduate or graduate degrees and are accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
